BMCC Welcomes Acting Assistant Vice President of Continuing Education and Workforce Development Terry Kidd

Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) is pleased to welcome Dr. Terry Kidd as Acting Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, effective February 14.

Before joining BMCC, Assistant Vice President Kidd served as Vice President for Strategic Planning, Research, Technology and Innovation at St. Augustine’s University (SAU) in Raleigh, North Carolina.

In his new role, Assistant Vice President Kidd will report directly to President Munroe as he provides direction and develops policies to expand existing workforce development programs at BMCC. He will also develop new programs and services designed to meet the needs of BMCC’s diverse college community as well as its urban community partners.

“First, I would like to use this opportunity to thank Anthony Watson for providing exemplary leadership during his time as Acting Dean of the Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development,” said President Munroe. “Dean Watson filled this role alongside his responsibilities as Executive Director of the BMCC-administered, SUNY New York Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC), which will return to being his primary focus.”

“We are excited to now welcome Dr. Terry Kidd as Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development and Continuing Education,” the President said. “Among other areas, Dr. Kidd will oversee programs that can lift people out of poverty, helping them develop workforce skills while earning stackable credits into our associate degree programs. He will lead programs that provide paid internships and enable participants to network with industry professionals and continue their higher education. Expertise in community, business engagement and strategic collaborations in workforce development

Assistant Vice President Kidd brings extensive expertise in innovation, technology and workforce development to BMCC. An experienced college faculty member and higher education leader at the executive level, Kidd has managed complex projects from senior executives and university boards. He has also published books, peer-reviewed journal papers and led presentations related to technology and education innovation.

Kidd led a transformation of SAU through two key mission-driven strategic priorities—Student Success and University Sustainability. He also oversaw the Offices of Strategic Planning and Effectiveness, Institutional Research and Analytics, Information Technology Services, the Office of Innovation and Special Initiatives as well as the Office of Project Planning and Mitigation.

Kidd built collaborative relationships with the university’s Office of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to support enrollment management strategic priorities and student engagement. He also secured more than four million dollars in grants to support innovation, technology and student experiences.

Before SAU, Kidd served as Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Workforce Development at Southern University in Shreveport, Louisiana. Earlier in his tenure at Southern, Kidd was the founding Director of the Center for Critical Race Studies and Civic Engagement.

Also during his tenure at Southern University, Kidd developed the Chancellors Workforce and Economic Development agenda and strategic priorities that led to increased funding for Adult Education including new continuing education workforce programs in manufacturing, energy, logistics and computing. He fostered collaborations with faculty, staff and students as well as the surrounding communities, to promote intellectual and personal development through research, best practices and evaluation. As a professor, he has taught Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems and Information Systems Technology courses.
