BMCC Swim Teams Continue to Make Waves

 Recently, the Panthers competed against seven of the top 10 swim teams in the northeast region at State University of New York at Delhi. 

The BMCC men’s swim team placed first overall, breaking four pool records and remaining undefeated in the relays at the second annual Delhi swim invitational, held the weekend of December 5th.  

The women’s swim team also took top awards at Delhi, placing 1st in the 100 free and 3rd in the 500 free.

The men finished the swim meet the same way they started—with an explosion of power and speed to take the 200 Medley Relay in [1:47.97]. The Panthers also beat the Herkimer Community College team by 5/100th of second in the 200 Free Relay [1:34.13].

BMCC’s Ambaye Haftom established two pool records in the men`s 100 backstroke [56:85] and the 200 Individual Medley [2:07.35]. Reynoso Berlado also set two pool records in the 50 free [22:02] and the 100 free [49:76].  

As for their fellow teammates, Crisotomos Radhames placed 4th in the 50 free [23:28] and 4th in the 100 free [52:66]. Marcelle Kaganovskaya finished 4th in the 200 free [2:08.26], 3rd in the 500 free [5:54.24] and 7th in the 100 fly [1:07.31]. And BMCC’s James Marty gave the Panthers their 6th consecutive relay win by swimming his personal best [33:34] 50 breaststroke in the Medley Relay.

BMCC’s Stacey Geoghegon is the Lady Panther who finished 1st in the 100 free [1:00] and 3rd in the 50 free [27:61]. She also anchored both relays to a 3rd and 6th place finish.

The women’s swim team consists of a few up-and-coming freshmen, including breaststroker Erika Lewin, who took 5th place at Delhi. Chinsena Bua finished 9th [1:20] and Chris Wilson-King finished 11th in the 50 and 100 free [30:49,1:11.49]. Angelica Lescano pushed the Lady Panthers to a 5th place finish in the 200 free relay with a [30:56/50 free].

The BMCC men and women’s swim teams are looking forward to the rest of the season, and competing at the CUNY Championships in February at Hunter College.
