December 9, 2003

Derwin Valle, a student at Borough of Manhattan Community College, has received a scholarship from the Trinidad and Tobago Alliance of North America. Valle, who was born in San Fernando, Trinidad, is currently studying multimedia programming and design at Borough of Manhattan Community College.

“I feel very honored to be awarded this scholarship by the Trinidad and Tobago Alliance,” Mr. Valle said.

AT BMCC, Mr. Valle is a member of two honor societies: Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two year colleges, and Chi Alpha Epsilon, an honor society for developmental education students. Mr. Valle serves as the treasurer of Chi Alpha Epsilon. The BMCC Foundation recognized Mr. Valle’s academic abilities with an Out in Two Scholarship.

On Sunday mornings, Mr. Valle volunteers with New York Cares to deliver meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers. In addition, he serves as a tutor in the computer information systems department of the Learning Resource Center. Mr. Valle, who plans to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program after his graduation from BMCC, hopes to pursue a career in animation. For almost 20 yeas, he has worked as a professional musician – as a member of a high-energy soca band, “Xtatic Ltd,” and now as a composer and producer in music studios.

Derwin Valle lives in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn.
