BMCC Men’s Soccer Team won its fourth straight City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Community College Men’s Soccer Championship with a 3-0 victory over Kingsborough Community College.

Yasuda wins Most Valuable Player

Ryuichiro Yasuda netted a pair of goals within the first 20 minutes of the match Monday night at Metropolitan Oval, and won his second consecutive championship game Most Valuable Player award.

“We played very well tonight, and this was a big win for us,” said BMCC head coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi. “Our hope was to get the first goal early on, and we were fortunate to get that off the corner kick.”

Yasuda one-touched his fourth goal of the season into the net just 3:08 into the match, as he knocked home a corner kick from Guebrian Zampaligre to give BMCC (9-6-1) the lead for good.

“I made a near post run on the corner kick and that first goal gave us the momentum,” said Yasuda.

Just over 16 minutes later, Yasuda received a long cross ball from Abdelwahab Mohamed at the top of the box, beat Kingsborough (5-8) keeper John Roman to the top of the box and chipped home his fifth goal of the season to double the Panthers’ lead to 2-0.

BMCC finished off the scoring 15 minutes into the second half, when Miguel Keys, a one-time NJCAA National Player of the Week selection this year, found Luis Candela with a pretty feed inside the penalty area. Candela then buried a shot to the top-right corner of the net, pushing the advantage to its final three-goal margin.

Kingsborough used a strong second-half offensive surge to end the night with a 20-18 shots advantage, with BMCC holding a 6-5 edge in corners.

Panthers first-half keeper Ivan Salame made three stops in his 45 minutes of action, while Rodney Lozier turned aside four shots in the final half of action.
