BMCC INSTRUCTOR NAMED TEACHER OF THE YEAR
FOR WORKFORCE TRAINING

Borough of Manhattan Community College Instructor Christopher Viteritti has been named Teacher of the Year for Workforce Training by the New York Association for Continuing/Community Education, Inc. (NYACCE).

Viteritti teaches computer repair and maintenance, networking, and programming courses in the Department of Adult and Continuing Education at BMCC. He coordinates a grant-funded computer training program for adults in the Northern Manhattan Empowerment Zone. This program trains unemployed or underemployed adults in computer networking and programming. “The end result of seeing a student who had trouble getting employment before the program, now deciding which offer to accept, is deeply satisfying,” Viteritti says.

“Chris is extremely devoted to his students. He routinely volunteers his own time to assist them on a wide variety of topics,” says David Kohn, assistant director of Adult and Continuing Education. “Chris gets everyone in his class involved with applying what they read in class to practical real world situations,” Kohn says. “You can see this at work in a PC repair class where he encourages the most timid student to open a computer, take it apart, and put it back together again.”

Viteritti is the third BMCC instructor this year to receive a teaching award. Two mathematics professors, Patricia Wilkinson and Annie Han, also received awards this year.

Viteritti, who lives in Brooklyn, will accept the award at a special Teacher’s Recognition Luncheon on April 29 at the annual conference of the New York Association for Continuing/Community Education, Inc. at the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa in upstate New York.
