BMCC Hosts De-stress Festival for Students

May 15, 2015

Final exam week can be the most stressful time of the year for college students. Many students attempt to deal with stress in ways that are counter-productive or even self-defeating; however BMCC is doing its part to help students do their best to help them “de-stress for academic success.”

From May 11-16, BMCC is hosting “De-Stress Fest,” sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Office of Student Affairs. The festival features an array of activities to help students during their final exams. Activities include yoga, Zumba, 10-minute massages and a puppy petting station. See full schedule.

Michael A. Hutmaker, Dean of Student Affairs said, “We have been hosting Destressfest at the end of each fall and spring semester the week before finals since 2011 where hundreds of students have taken advantage of the various workshops and events. The past few summers, we’ve done an abridged version for the summer sessions students.”

He said this year’s festival includes a few new activities including a Relaxation Spa where students can come and get away from the hustle and bustle of the day in a stress-free environment and some new Game and Activity Day events with student clubs hosting jewelry making, videos games and Salsa dancing.

In addition, the College will be extending hours of operation for their computer labs, Learning Resource Center, the library and other study spaces across campus.

In its December 6, 2013 edition, The Huffington Post published an article that featured college students from across the U.S. who offered helpful tips for relieving stress during finals.
