BMCC Celebrates the 20-Year Anniversary of its First Championship Chess Season by Hosting a Free NYChessKids Tournament

New York, NY—On Sunday, June 23, 2013, Borough of Manhattan Community College at 199 Chambers Street in Lower Manhattan, will host a free NYChessKids tournament. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the tournament begins at 10:00 a.m.
The tournament will include rated and non-rated, as well as timed and untimed games and rounds for Pre-K through 12th-grade students. A new section, “Kids Help Kids” will accommodate children with disabilities from all grades. Trophies and medals will be awarded.
The BMCC chess team, comprised of students, faculty and staff, is a member of the Bankers Athletic League, Division A, and rose to fame when it won first place in the Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship in 1993 and 1994—the first community college to do so, and beating out several Ivy League contenders—and 3rd place in 1995.
