BMCC GALA ON APRIL 10 HONORS
SHIRLEY AND MILES FITERMAN AND GERALD HASSELL

April 4, 2003

The Borough of Manhattan Community College Fund, Inc. will honor benefactors Miles and Shirley Fiterman and Bank of New York President Gerald L. Hassell at the college’s 15th annual gala on April 10, 2003.

Miles and Shirley Fiterman donated the 15-story Fiterman Hall at 30 West Broadway to BMCC in 1993. Their gift is the largest ever made to a community college. Fiterman Hall was damaged in the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center and has been closed ever since. The Fitermans also support a number of scholarships at BMCC. They are generous benefactors of numerous arts and healthcare organizations in Florida, New York, and Minneapolis.

Gerald L. Hassell is the president of the Bank of New York, which has been a major supporter of BMCC. Mr. Hassell is involved with many charitable and philanthropic activities in education, child welfare, and healthcare.

Proceeds from the gala benefit scholarships for BMCC students. More than 200 students received scholarships from the BMCC Fund last year.

The gala takes place at Bridgewaters at South Street Seaport, 11 Fulton Street. Cocktails are served at 6:30 p.m. Dinner and a live auction follow at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $500 each.
