Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) is contributing disinfectant supplies and resources to support a CUNY-wide effort to support students.

“We are all on this together as a University, a City, a Country and we need to support and share our resources with those that have critical needs,” Jorge E. Yafar, Assistant Vice President for Campus Planning and Facilities. “That is the only way we can come out of this crisis stronger.”

On March 28, José Luis Cruz, Executive Vice Chancellor and University Provost, CUNY sent a request to all CUNY campuses for expertise and coordination as CUNY continues with the process of relocating CUNY students from various residences around New York City into a Consolidation Residence in the Summit Apartments at Queens College.

The relocation of students is due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused school closures across the City University of New York. Students who were living in residence halls at other CUNY colleges are being relocated to the Summit Apartments as temporary residency. The Summit Apartments have a capacity of just more than 500 residents, and is located in the heart of the campus, just south of FitzGerald Gymnasium.

CUNY requested personal protective equipment and disinfection supplies, as well as mental health counseling for the residents. BMCC answered the call by contributing 15 boxes of cleaning wipes, containing 6 dispensers per box.

“It is critical for us to come together and help one another during this time,” says Karrin Wilks, Interim President of BMCC. “Contributing to this collaborative effort is vital to supporting the health and well-being of our students.”
