Normally presented as a luncheon, this year’s event was virtual and featured a livestream speaker presentation as well as individual recognition of employees who maintained high standards of service at BMCC in units and departments including the President’s Office, Buildings and Grounds, the Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC), English department, Registrars Office and more.

The ceremony opened with comments by BMCC Interim President Karrin E. Wilks.

“This year it’s very different celebrating from a distance — but it’s critically important that we take the time to honor and recognize our wonderful employees,” Wilks said. “First, I want to thank all BMCC employees for your dedication, passion and creativity as we have gotten through this very unprecedented semester, very difficult times. I especially want to thank Buildings and Grounds, and Public Safety, who continued to come to campus, keeping BMCC open, even as we delivered instruction, support services and our operations from a distance.”

Highlighting the employees being recognized, Wilks said, “This is an impressive and humbling demonstration of commitment, to the college, of dedication to the mission of BMCC, of dedication to BMCC’s students, and a dedication to the BMCC family. You are such an important part of what we do and I want to thank you all, all honorees and again all BMCC employees. Thank you for making BMCC such a wonderful place to teach and learn, work and belong.”

More than 125 members of the BMCC community joined the livestream event, which also featured testimonials in praise of the employees being recognized, by their colleagues, including Wilks who spoke in praise of her assistant Grace Brown, who has served under seven BMCC presidents.
