A Letter from President Pérez to the BMCC Community

November 7, 2012

Dear Members of the BMCC Community,

On behalf of the entire college, and in the wake of the destruction of Hurricane Sandy, I want each of you to know that we are thinking of you, and are profoundly concerned about your well-being.

It is a tribute to the strength and resilience of our students, faculty and staff that so many of you returned to class and work on Monday, our first day of being open after the storm.

The devastating effects of this unprecedented weather event have personally impacted each of us in a different way. We realize that this healing process will involve more than simply accessing resources, repairing damage to structures and resuming our schedules.

I have seen our college community get back on its feet in the past when disaster struck, and I believe events such as these make us stronger, more resourceful, and more aware of how important we are to each other as a community.

I know that some of the students in our community continue to struggle with housing, transportation, and other vital issues related to the storm. For assistance and support we have made arrangements to enhance our student services and augment them with community-based resources during the recovery process.

I admire your resilience and commitment in reclaiming the academic goals that were interrupted by the storm. BMCC will continue to support our students during this difficult time. We encourage you to learn more about our enhanced student services and share this information with the BMCC community by clicking on the following link: Hurricane Sandy Resources and Services.
