Create a powerful and compelling story in this inclusive and supportive workshop.

With the support of the Center Stage Theatre Club and the Communication Studies Club, the Department of Speech, Communication, and Theatre Arts will conduct a Storytelling Workshop on Wednesday, 3/6/24 from 2-4 p.m. in Room N-451 led by Professors Lisa Haas  and Elizabeth Whitney

In this inclusive and supportive workshop, we’ll introduce you to the art of storytelling and help you create/craft a powerful and compelling story capturing notable awe-inspiring, heartwarming, life-changing, thought-provoking, gratifying, and/or rewarding moments that you have personally experienced on your journey to, during, and/or after BMCC. These notable moments may be the result of your unique personal circumstances and challenges, your interactions with certain BMCC students, faculty, staff, or alums, and/or your involvement with certain BMCC student/faculty/alum groups/organizations, support offices, scholarships, or events.

This workshop is also your opportunity to develop material that could be performed at the Storytelling Open Mic event on Wednesday 5/1/24 from  2-p.m. in Room N-451 and/or might be selected for a public performance at the upcoming BMCC Storytelling LIVE at Perelman Performing Arts Center event on Wednesday 5/15/24 2:30-4 p.m. showcasing BMCC students, faculty, staff, and alums.

Please RSVP if you are interested in attending and bring the following to the workshop:

  • A personal artifact that you can use to introduce yourself to the workshop group
  • An idea for a story that you’re working on
  • Be prepared to share two to three minutes of your story as part of the workshop

* BMCC students who participate in both the 3/6/24 Storytelling Workshop or (or the 3/26, 4/3, or 4/17 Storytelling Walk-In Hours) AND the 5/1 Storytelling Open Mic event will receive CCT (Co-Curricular Transcript) credits.

If you have any questions, contact Professor Lisa Haas or Professor Elizabeth Whitney.
