Modern Languages Department Student Symposium

The Modern Languages Department invites all BMCC students, faculty and staff to top by our Fifth Annual Student Symposium. The theme is Multicultural Legacies in New York City.

Special Musical Guest Aracely Sánchez will be performing at 5 p.m.

Aracely SánchezAracely Sánchez (El Salvador) is a singer, composer, percussionist, ethnomusicologist, and music teacher. She completed her musical studies at the Centro Nacional de Artes in San Salvador and her pedagogical training at the Instituto Tecnológico Centroamericano in the same city.

Aracely was co-founder and percussionist of the Ballet Folklórico Nacional from 1977 to 1984 and was in charge of the musicalization of the documentaries Testimonios de Nuestro Ayer, Chalchuapa and Roque Dalton for Televisión Cultural y Educativa.

She has collaborated with the Latin Shakespeare Festival in NYC and Mexico, and has coordinated the seminar Traditional instruments applied to percussion for music education teachers, funded by UNESCO.

Since 2009, she has been a member of Nashir!!! Rotenbert Chorale and collaborates in the cultural events of the Emily Dickinson Public School.
