Join us for the Opening Ceremony of Afrikan Heritage Month on February 7 from 1-4:30 p.m. — a celebration of the history and culture of Afrikan and Afrikan descendant people featuring food, dance and music. 

Dr. Ashtian Holmes and Professor James Blake will be the emcees for the Opening Ceremony.

About Keynote Speaker Craig Wesley, Senior Manager, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Simons Foundation
Craig Wesley, Director of DEI, joined the Simons Foundation in March 2021. He is responsible for leading the implementation of the DEI action plan across the foundation. Prior to joining the foundation, he worked in a variety of DEI roles within the nonprofit and corporate sectors. Before joining the Simons Foundation he served as Director of Strategic Engagement at National Urban Fellows, a leadership accelerator and talent pipeline for diverse mid-career professionals committed to equity, public service, and social impact. He has close to 20 years of DEI experience as a thought leader and practitioner. Craig holds a BA (history and political science) from Purdue University and an MPA from Baruch College-CUNY

New York Governor Hochul recently announced that CUNY will receive $75 Million from the Simons Foundation, which is the largest donation in University history. The gift includes $50 million to establish CUNY as a hub for computational science and $25 million to support CUNY’s participation in the Governor’s proposed Empire Artificial Intelligence project. Computational science uses programming techniques to solve problems in fields such as biology, astrophysics and neuroscience.
