E-Learning Courses

Each e-learning course is the equivalent of the course we offer in the face-to-face format. For the average student, each credit earned involves approximately three hours for coursework per credit hour per week for fifteen weeks. Each course carries the same number of credits, assesses the same learning outcomes, and is taught by a member of the BMCC faculty. Online courses are just as rigorous and demanding as face-to-face classes and involve high levels of interaction through audio, video, discussion boards, e-mail and/or live chat sessions.

There are three types of E-Learning Courses:

Fully Online: A course delivered 100% online. Scheduled class meetings are replaced with online activities and virtual meetings, including online exams. No face-to-face meetings.

Online: A course delivered via the Internet which is 80%-100% online. Some online courses may require campus meetings for orientations or exams.

Hybrid: A course where learning occurs online and through face-to-face instruction. Regular attendance in both formats is required. At least 33%-80% of the content is discussed online with the remainder of the content delivered through face-to-face format sessions.

All students must have either a GPA of 2.0 or better or be a first semester freshman or transfer student in order to register for an e-learning course. Students register on CUNYfirst and may find E-Learning courses by changing the instruction mode to Fully Online, Online, and Hybrid.
