María Teresa Álvarez is a veteran journalist and feature news writer in New York City. She was a freelance reporter for Newsday; a former staff writer with the New York Post, where she covered city hall, city, state and federal courts and breaking national and international stories. She was also a staff reporter at the Hartford Courant and the Boston Globe. At BMCC, she teaches English composition and literature as well as journalism news writing and Journalism in the Social Media Age. Maria Alvarez has also taught journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, Hunter College, Baruch College, York College and Stony Brook University.
