Academic Notice 1
Students are placed on Academic Notice 1 if their GPA falls below the minimum retention standards. While on academic notice, students are limited to 14 credits until they attain the minimum required GPA (See Academic Standing).
Academic Notice 2
Students are placed on Academic Notice 2 if they were on Academic Notice 1 and did not meet the minimum retention standards for the subsequent semester.
Students on Academic Notice 2 must meet the minimum retention in their next semester of enrollment or obtain a term GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students who do not meet the minimum retention semester in the subsequent semester after being on Academic Notice 2 will be Academically Dismissed. Students who do not meet the minimum retention standards, but who obtain a term GPA of 3.0 or higher will be placed on Academic Notice – GPA and given another semester to regain Good Academic Standing.
Academic Dismissal
Students on Academic Notice 2, Academic Notice GPA or Academic Notice Appeal whose GPA falls below minimum retention standards or who do not earn a minimum term GPA of 3.0 are academically dismissed. Academically dismissed students may not attend BMCC unless they file a completed online appeal and it is approved by the Committee on Academic Standing (CAS).
Application for Reinstatement to the College after Academic Dismissal
A student who is academically dismissed once may be reinstated to the College on Academic Notice – Appeal. Students on Academic Notice – Appeal are required to participate in an assigned cohort program.
Appeal of Dismissal
Academic dismissal may be appealed as set forth below by submitting a completed online appeal form to the Committee on Academic Standing. Documentary evidence must be provided in support of the appeal. Recommendation from a Student Life college counselor must also be submitted.
