Open Forum Presents Donald Generals, Middle States Team Chair for BMCC
As part of BMCC’s ongoing accreditation process through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) students, faculty and staff attended a Middle States Open Forum on November 6 at 199 Chambers Street. The guest speaker, Dr. Donald Generals, is BMCC’s Middle States Team Member.

BMCC Announces 2018 Leadership Fellows
Fifteen faculty from 11 departments have been selected for the BMCC 2018 Faculty Leadership Fellows Program. These include Professors Jean Amaral, Edna Asknes, Joel Barker, Kirsten Cole, Heather Finn, Andrea Garraway, Eda Henao, Christopher Jackson, Mark Janis, Catarina Mata, Michael Morford, Chamutal Noiman, Rosario Torres-Guevara, Jason Schneiderman, Janice Walters and Don Wei (pictured above, center).

100 Years! A Celebration of Women’s Rights
On November 6, BMCC hosted the League of Women Voters of the City of New York and their mayoral proclamation celebrating the 100th anniversary of women's right to vote in New York State.

BMCC Students Meet with NYS Assembly Member Yuh-Line Niou
On November 2, New York State Assembly Member Yuh-Line Niou (pictured center), met with BMCC students as part of the Civic Leadership Program that was piloted last year. The program provides BMCC students with knowledge, skills and opportunities to become more civically and politically engaged, and introduces them to careers in government, advocacy and social service. This opportunity is part of the BMCC Academy of Leadership and Service program led by the Office of Student Activities.

UN United Nations' Neil Pierre to Visit BMCC, November 15
The BMCC community is invited to meet Neil Pierre, Neil Pierre, Chief, Policy Coordination Branch, Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination, DESA at the UN on November 15 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. in Fiterman Hall, Room 206. Pierre will speak about the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the promotion of peace and security, gender equality and other issues such as the engagement of young people. The free event (CCT-approved) is hosted by the Economics, Equality and Environment Club and BMCC faculty. Refreshments will be provided. RSVP to bmcceeeclub@gmail.com.
Forum BMCC Students Receive $10K Each from Women’s Forum of New York: Nominate a Student for Next Year by December 1  
Human Services majors Joanne Torres (pictured right) and Janice Mahan (pictured left) have each received a $10,000 grant from The Women’s Forum Education Fund, which serves women over 35 who have demonstrated high potential and faced adversity which disrupted their education. The deadline is December 1 to nominate a student for next year’s award.
Active Shooter/Hostile Active Shooter/Hostile Intruder Presentation, November 14

The Fall 2017 BMCC Commons is now available online. This issue features stories of accessibility and opportunity at BMCC, highlighting the college’s OER efforts, developmental efforts, special funded programs as well as outstanding faculty, students and staff. BMCC Commons is produced by the Office of Public Affairs.
Hispanic Heritage Month Hispanic Heritage Month Runs Through December 7
Hispanic Heritage Month features art exhibitions, book discussions, music, and more. “We wanted to provide our students with tools to raise critical awareness about current social issues,” said BMCC Professor Rosario Torres, who co-chaired the month with Professor David Caicedo.
Dispaced BMCC Offers Opportunity for Students Displaced by Natural Disasters
The CUNY Board of Trustees voted to allow full-time students affected by recent natural disasters to pay tuition at the in-state rate. BMCC is providing opportunities for the same students to earn an education through select programs. Eligible students seeking fee waivers to enter the BMCC Math Start program may call LaShallah Burgess, (212) 346-8897. If they want information on paying tuition at the in-state level, applying for grants or other assistance, they may contact the BMCC Office of Admissions: admissions@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Join the Veterans Resource Center at the NYC Veterans Day Parade, November 11
The BMCC community is invited to join the Veterans Resource Center in the 2017 New York City Veterans Day Parade on November 11, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The parade starts at Fifth Avenue and 26th Street in midtown Manhattan. Registration is required.

CUNY Cloud Virtual Desktop Lets Faculty Access Course Software From Home
BMCC faculty can remotely access their course software 24/7 from home or off campus, by using the CUNY Cloud Virtual Desktop on their computers, tablets or smartphones.
