BMCC Foundation 2018 Gala, Invest in a Future: Empower Success Set for May 15
BMCC and the BMCC Foundation will host the 2018 Gala, Invest in a Future: Empower Success, on May 15 at Cipriani, 25 Broadway in lower Manhattan. Cocktails are at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner and program starting at 7 p.m. The 2018 Gala Honorees are long-time friend of the College, Loretta Lee, Chairwoman of Merchant House International Ltd., and Chieh Huang, Chief Executive Officer of Boxed Wholesale/Boxed.com. This year’s Special Guest Star Honoree is Liev Schreiber, Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor, producer and director.

Town Hall Helps Community Prepare for March 2018 Middle States Visit
On February 13, a Middle States Town Hall for the BMCC community was held in Theatre 2 at the College’s main campus, 199 Chambers Street in lower Manhattan.The meeting updated students, faculty and staff on a visit to BMCC by an evaluation team from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) scheduled for March 11 through March 14.

Articulation Agreement Presents Opportunity With Southeast Missouri State University
BMCC Theatre graduates—aspiring actors, directors, set designers and others interested in a wide range of theatre professions—now have the option of transferring to Southeast Missouri State University to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre.

BMCC Faculty Art Exhibit In the Studio Opening Held on Feb. 14
The BMCC community celebrated faculty artists at the opening of In the Studio in BMCC’s Shirley Fiterman Arts Center on February 14. The opening event also included a memorial for BMCC Professor Charles McGill who passed away in Summer 2017. "Though he taught at BMCC only three years, Charles McGill made an enormous impact on both his students and his colleagues,” says Professor of Art Peter (Xico) Greenwald, who serves on the faculty Gallery Committee that coordinated In the Studio.

BMCC Addresses Food Insecurity and Its Impact on Students
Reaching out to the “whole student” is part of the mission of the BMCC Office of Student Affairs. "In addition to services we provide through the Counseling Center, the Women's Resource Center, the Veteran's Resource Center and the Office of Accessibility, for many years the Office of Student Affairs has been expanding the College's 'culture of care’ to address the issue of food insecurity,” says Marva Craig, Vice President for Student Affairs. Students in need have access to meal vouchers and gift cards to local food stores made possible through the generosity of the BMCC Foundation and BMCC Hardship fund.

BMCC 21st Modern Languages Colloquium Set for March 20 and March 22
The BMCC Modern Languages Department will hold its 21st annual Colloquium, March 20 and March 22. This year’s Colloquium—Narratives From the World; Books and Movies for the New Millennium—includes a series of speakers, performance and films in Theatre 2 and Room N-451 at 199 Chambers Street. The event is free and open to the public. BMCC faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend.

Center for Career Development Prepares Students for Interviews and More  
The BMCC Center for Career Development will host a career Mardi Gras on February 20 from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. in Room S-342. The event will help students prepare for the upcoming career fair scheduled for March 7. The office has collected more than 190 new and gently used suits, blazers, ties, pants and other items for men and women. BMCC also has partnerships with Dress for Success, Bottomless Closet and That Suits You, for students who need professional attire. For more information call (212) 220-8170.

Grand Opening: Learning Resource Center Offers Tutoring in Fiterman Hall
The Learning Resource Center (LRC) provides Tutoring Services in Accounting, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, English and Art in 3 in room F-511, Fiterman Hall. The services are offered Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Also, academic coaches are available to help students develop individual learning plans in response to early alerts and to address academic difficulties. Let’s Talk: Counseling Center Initiative The BMCC Counseling Center now offers Let’s Talk, a program that provides informal and confidential consultations with counselors. Let’s Talk is a drop-in service through which a student can benefit from a counselor’s feedback on an issue of concern. It is not a clinical service, a substitute for a regular counseling appointment, or intended for students needing urgent help. If you are having a mental health emergency, please go to the Counseling Center in S-343, call (212) 220-8140 during business hours or contact Public Safety at (212) 220-8080. Apply for CUNY Service Corps: Priority Deadline February 16 Student applications for the 2018-2019 BMCC CUNY Service Corps cohort are now open. Through the CUNY Service Corps, BMCC students join projects to improve the civic, economic and environmental sustainability of communities in New York City. Service placements last 24 weeks over two semesters. Participants work 12-hours per week for $15 an hour, and in some cases, earn college credit. In observance of Presidents’ Day, BMCC will be closed February 19. This is a scheduled holiday, excused without charge for Instructional Staff in Non-teaching functions; for Civil Service: Clerical, Administrative, Professional, Custodial, Stores-Stock, (Campus Security excused without charge subject to essential scheduling), Skilled Trades, and Career and Salary Plan Titles. Hourly employees will be paid based on time worked only. Section 220 employees will be excused without charge, consistent with the negotiated Holiday Schedule.

Miosotis Familia Memorial Scholarship Fund Miosotis Familia (Liberal Arts, ’09) served as a law enforcement officer in the New York Police Department for 12 years—a career that came to a tragic end when she was shot in the line of duty on the night of July 4, 2017. To carry on her legacy, The Miosotis Familia Public Service Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to students in the BMCC Human Services and Criminal Justice programs.
