BMCC Students Encouraged to Apply for Opportunity
BMCC students are encouraged to Apply NOW for The DO School Innovate NYC 2017 Challenge! BMCC has teamed up with the DO School and 10 other NYC higher education institutions to create a new landmark program within New York City’s higher education landscape: Innovate NYC. This program offers students from the participating universities and colleges a unique opportunity to launch their careers as changemakers within their communities and learn invaluable entrepreneurial skills. Through a curated co-creation method, together with 19 other participants, students will tackle a real-life challenge set by the City of New York: to find new and innovative approaches for a world class industrial park to engage its workers in ways that save the environment and build community across the city. The first 100 students to submit their application will automatically receive invitations to the first skills-building workshop, a day-long event focusing on enhancing your capacity for ideation. In 2016, BMCC Liberal Arts major Mackendy Blanc (pictured above, center) was selected to join a cohort of citywide college students to help link nonprofits with resources through global education platform the Do School. Rosemary Christoff Dolan Establishes Named Endowment Scholarship in Honor of her Brother, Professor Gerald Christoff
In honor of her late brother Gerald Christoff (1935-2014), who taught critical thinking in the Academic Literacy and Linguistics Department at BMCC from 2006 to 2013, Rosemary Christoff Dolan has established the Gerald Christoff Endowed Scholarship Fund to benefit BMCC students. Before joining the faculty at BMCC, Gerald Christoff devoted more than a half century to his career as a pianist and classical composer, writing more than 100 works of contemporary classical music and performing widely. When he began his second career at BMCC "he exclaimed, ‘Imagine! I’m getting paid to exchange ideas with these bright young minds’,” says Ms. Dolan. “It is heartening to know that his love of knowledge will live on through his students and that others will continue to find meaning in his music.” To design the endowment of your choice, contact the Foundation office at (212) 220-8020.
