Beginning Thursday, September 29, the College will embark on a comprehensive bathroom renovation project at the Chambers Street Building. This capital project focuses on providing greater accessibility and includes upgrades to the ventilation and temperature control systems to fixtures, stalls, floors, ceiling and lighting.
“These new facilities were designed with the latest cutting edge technology available in terms of comfort, accessibility and sustainability,” said Thomas Ching, Chief Administrative Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. “They are much welcome additions to the 3+ decade-old BMCC infrastructure and represent our deep commitment to the well-being of our students, faculty and staff.”
The renovations include the installation of porcelain floor and wall tiles, granite counters and stainless steel fixtures and energy-saving LED lights. The first phase of the project includes the renovation of the 12 public bathrooms on the north side of Harrison Street followed by six months later by work on the 14 facilities on the south side.
“The College understands that this will be an inconvenience for members of the campus community, but we appreciate everyone’s cooperation as this project is completed,” Scott Anderson, Vice President of Administration and Planning. “These vitally important facilities were long overdue for an upgrade to today’s standards and expectation for bathrooms. The renovation will be an inconvenience but we are asking the campus community to bear with us during this time because the finished facilities will be great improvement. It is also consistent with the college’s commitment to innovation and sustainability by fostering the college’s environmental sustainability practices.”
