BMCC Welcomes Spring 2018 Out in Two Cohort  
The BMCC Out in Two scholarship program provides a supportive community to help students graduate within two years and transfer to a senior college. On March 8, a ceremony in Theatre 2 recognized the Spring 2018 cohort of almost 80 scholars. Speakers included BMCC alumnus, former Out in Two scholar and co-founder of the NuAfrikan Theatre, Theatre Professor Marcus Dargan.

Annual Reception Celebrates Faculty Authors
Faculty whose work in mathematics, poetry, computing, philosophy and other fields were honored at an Authors’ Reception in the President’s Conference Room at 199 Chambers Street on March 1. BMCC Students Make Their Voices Heard in Albany
On February 27, four students in the BMCC Civic Leadership Program travelled to the State Capitol in Albany to discuss with legislators, the impact of proposed CUNY and BMCC budget cuts on their educations and lives. The students—Fadel Yerima, Radha Longo, Eleni Spiru and Allen Kruzhkov (L-R, above)—met with Charles LeDuc, Legislative Director for New York State Assemblymember Deborah J. Glick, as well as staff in the office of Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou.

Free Film Retrospective Series: Leading Ladies Who Sing
BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center (BMCC TPAC) proudly presents Leading Ladies Who Sing, a free event in the Scenes Through the Cinema Lens series scheduled for March 20 at 7:30 p.m. This fiilm event will showcase distinguished jazz singers like Abbey Lincoln, Peggy Lee and Billie Holiday, as well as timeless performances by singer/actresses including Judy Garland, Diana Ross and Marilyn Monroe.

CUNY Service Corps: Student Applications Due March 11 Student applications for the 2018-2019 BMCC CUNY Service Corps cohort are due March 11. Through the CUNY Service Corps, students help improve the civic, economic and environmental sustainability of communities in New York City. Service placements last 24 weeks over two semesters. CUNYFirst Travel and Expense Systems Trainings: March 12 and May 2

Support BMCC Emergency Fund at St. Patrick’s Day Lunch: March 14   BMCC faculty and staff are invited to attend the 10th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Lunch on March 14 at 12:30 to 2 p.m. in Richard Harris Terrace. Tickets are $25 per person and include lunch, Irish dance and door prizes. Proceeds go to the BMCC Emergency Fund, which helps students with food insecurity and temporary needs such as MTA MetroCards. Asian Heritage Month: Submit Art and Poetry by March 28 In celebration of Asian Heritage Month, BMCC students, faculty and staff are invited to submit original visual art and poetry—you may submit in one or both categories—reflecting this year’s theme, Harmony. An Asian Heritage Month event celebrating the selected art and poetry is set for April 19 at 199 Chambers Street, Room S-341, from 12 to 2:30 p.m. ART: Please submit a jpeg or PDF of one or two original artworks, including a description of the work's physical dimensions and its medium or media. POETRY: Please submit three to five pages of original poetry. BMCC is celebrating Women’s Herstory Month throughout March with the theme, Nevertheless, She Persisted. Current activism in the United States and on many college campuses is reflected in the month's events.

Professional Development Fair: Develop Your Super Powers: April 4  
All BMCC staff members are invited to learn how to better develop their own talent and opportunities at the college's first Professional Development Fair. Participants can attend workshops, visit table presentations and talk with representatives from colleges and universities, CUNY professional development resources, City of New York representatives and others.

Healthcare Option for BMCC Students
BMCC has formed a partnership with Gouverneur Health System, a member of the Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC). This will allow BMCC students—including those who are uninsured, international and undocumented—to receive direct referrals for medical and mental health services. Active Shooter/Hostile Intruder Presentation  
The BMCC Public Safety Department invites faculty, staff and students to attend a 60- to 90-minute presentation on surviving an event involving an active shooter or hostile intruder.
