State of the College

State of the College Address Set for March 7
The BMCC Community is invited to join President Antonio Pérez as he delivers the State of the College Address on Tuesday March 7, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Theatre 2, 199 Chambers Street. This important annual event acknowledges and celebrates the dedication of BMCC students, faculty and staff, and recognizes our college’s achievements and commitment to equity and social justice.

CUNY Care BMCC Students Speak Out in Support of CUNY Child Care Centers
BMCC students Nadia Olivares, Claudia Bencosme, Gregoire Boisrond, Olivia Peart, Ricardo Rodriguez and Kiara Vera share their experience of having children in the BMCC Early Childhood Center, as they attend or provide testimony for a hearing on CUNY Child Care Centers held February 14 at the City Hall Council Chambers in Lower Manhattan.
BMCC Faculty Present Recent Artwork: Opening Reception February 22
“RE:SEARCH,” an exhibition of recent faculty art, opens at BMCC with a reception on Wednesday, February 22 at 6:00 p.m., in the Shirley Fiterman Art Center, 81 Barclay Street in Lower Manhattan. The exhibit will be on display through April 1, 2017.

St. Pats Annual St. Patrick’s Day Lunch, March 13, Benefits BMCC Emergency Fund
Tickets are available for the 9th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Lunch on Monday, March 13 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Richard Harris Terrace at 199 Chambers Street. Admission is $25 if purchased by March 9, or $30 at the door, and includes a traditional Irish buffet — corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes, Irish soda bread, cider and coffee — as well as Irish dance performances and door prizes. Tickets can be purchased with a check payable to the BMCC Foundation through Hyacinth Camillieri via interoffice mail to Fiterman 1330, or online HERE. CUNY CUE Conference 2017: Registration Open
Registration is open for the 2017 CUNY Coordinated Undergraduate Education (CUE) Conference set for May 5 at 199 Chambers Street, NYC 10007. The CUE conference is an opportunity to share evidence-based practice across CUNY aimed at improving student success, retention and graduation, and successful transfer. This year’s theme, Accelerating Progress, Accelerating Equity: Improving Student Success in Developmental and Gateway Courses, focuses on advancing equity and improving student outcomes in developmental and gateway courses. Immigration

Immigration Support for Students
BMCC is available to assist students who need support and resources to address matters related to immigration. The college provides information about relevant institutional policies, legislation and executive orders, including those affecting international students, permanent residents and students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Funding for Students Facing Short-Term Emergencies
Thanks to funding from the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation, BMCC provides emergency grants to help eligible students resolve short-term emergencies and continue their studies without interruption. All grant requests require documentation, and while the Petrie grants do not cover tuition, college debt or legal representation, students are encouraged to visit BMCC Single Stop at 199 Chambers Street, Room S-235, to discuss their concerns. In observance of Presidents’ Day, BMCC will be closed Monday, February 20. This scheduled holidays is excused without charge for Instructional Staff in non-teaching functions, Civil Service: Clerical, Administrative, Professional, Custodial, Stores-Stock, [Campus Security excused without charge subject to essential scheduling], Skilled Trades (except Laborers), and Career and Salary Plan Titles. Hourly employees will be paid based on time worked only.

Saint Hung Alumni Now: Saint Hung
Entrepreneur Saint Hung (Business Administration, ’05) is the Chief Executive Officer of Universal Processing, a financial technology startup he founded in 2009 and which serves more than 5,000 clients and generate $1.5 billion in managed revenue. While a student at BMCC, Mr. Hung was an Honors student and award-winning member of the Phi Theta Kappa All-USA academic team. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Applied Science in Economics at Columbia University, and remains a friend to BMCC by providing internships and participating in the college’s career fairs.

Tickets on Sale Now for BMCC Foundation 2017 Gala
Tickets are on sale now for the College’s largest fundraising event, the “Invest in a Future” Gala hosted by the BMCC Foundation and scheduled for Thursday, May 18 at Cipriani, 25 Broadway. Cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m.; dinner and program at 7:00 p.m. Funds raised will support the BMCC Foundation Scholarship Fund. This year’s honorees are Jeffrey Gural, Chairman, Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, and Carol Britton, Chief Operating Officer of Corporate Services, BNY Mellon.
