Mission
The Shirley Fiterman Art Center (SFAC) at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is dedicated to organizing exhibitions of contemporary art and cultural programming through which it seeks to promote and enrich the educational mission of BMCC and serve as a resource for the BMCC and Lower Manhattan communities. These exhibitions are intended to provide diverse gallery programs that allow a place to engage with contemporary art and investigate a deeper understanding of its role in society at a venue that is free of charge and open to the public.
Vision
We believe in the fundamental role of education and advocacy through art and in the preservation of the artistic and historic legacies of Tribeca and Lower Manhattan. We seek to galvanize the cultural landscape of the community, compliment the academic and visual arts programs of the college, and foster wider appreciation of contemporary art and cultural understanding.
Artist Proposals
The Shirley Fiterman Art Center generally does not incorporate unsolicited proposals into our exhibition programming. We receive a high volume of proposals annually and as such only proposals that are under consideration will be contacted.
If you are interested in submitting your artwork or an exhibition proposal for review, you must submit a resume or CV, a one-page artist’s statement or exhibition proposal, and a maximum of five images.
All materials should be submitted via email to ShirleyFitermanArtCenter@bmcc.cuny.edu. We ask that you do not make solicitations in person, by fax, or by phone.
