BMCC Remembers Victims of UCC Tragedy
As we complete the first full week of October in the 2015-16 academic year, let us take a moment to remember the victims of the recent shooting that occurred at Umpqua Community College (UCC) in Oregon.

It is the strength of the UCC community that is getting them through this difficult time. Community is something we have always valued at BMCC. Our strong community helped us recover from the events of 9/11, and our sense of community continues to give us strength today.

As UCC moves forward to rebuild itself after the horrible tragedy that claimed the lives of 10 people, I ask that you keep the students, faculty and staff of Umpqua Community College in your minds and hearts.

BMCC will have a moment of silence at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9 in memory of the lives lost at UCC last week. The Office of Student Affairs and its team of counselors are available to provide services to individuals and groups upon request.

Student Co-Curricular Transcript Encouraged
BMCC asks faculty and staff to inform students of the opportunity to record their official campus involvement on their Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT). This is a student initiated comprehensive record of the student’s participation and achievements outside the classroom while enrolled at BMCC. These activities foster the total development of the student and encourage life-long learning, leadership, service and responsible citizenship. When coupled with the academic transcript, a holistic representation of the student's total education will be created. The Division of Student Affairs validates each Co-Curricular Transcript. The Co-Curricular Transcript is organized around six categories: athletics, clubs and organizations, community service, honors and awards, leadership training and workshops and seminars. In addition, many faculty and staff are involved in facilitating non-credit workshops for students outside the classroom that may be included on the student’s Co-Curricular Transcript. To increase the variety of opportunities for student involvement, these faculty and staff should fill out the Faculty and Staff Submission form online to make their workshop a CCT eligible event. The link to the form can be found at /students/student-activities/cct/form.jsp. For more information contact Nereida Montijo, Assistant Director of Student Involvement and Civic Responsibility at (212) 346-8408 or nmontijo@bmcc.cuny.edu.
