The course which offers Social Science Field Experience in Italy is taught in English, and is de-signed to introduce students to the geography, history and politics of Italy. Social and economic issues of Italy are explored, with emphasis on Italy's pre-Roman and modern-day history. Orientation, seminars with guest lecturers, field trips to sites of historic interest, and cultural tours are an integral part of the travel program. The field experience base of operations is Sant’ Anna Institute in Italy.

The Field Experience in Italy course fulfills 3 credits of a Social Science or Liberal Arts elective requirement and is transferable. Besides 45 hours of class instruction, there will be vari-ous cultural excursions. In addition to the Field Experience course, student participants will be required to take an Italian language course, with level to be determined via a brief oral/written test offered by the St'Anna Institute faculty.

For the language course, students will receive either a Diploma or Certificate of Attendance. There is the possibility that students can have the Italian language course evaluated for an addi-tional 3 credits either in Modern Language or as an elective at a senior college within CUNY or other college / university.

Program Fee: $1,882.00 (approximately - includes international airfare, health insurance, and program‐related transportation in Italy, excursions, housing and three meals per day) BMCC 60% SCHOLARSHIP is included in price. Additional scholarship funds may be available for this program.

Additional Costs: BMCC tuition and fees for 3 credits, as well as out‐of‐pocket costs for personal expenses, visa, tips, and out‐of‐pocket meals. Optional side trips to local tourist attractions may also incur additional costs.

Prerequisite: Completion of a 3 credit course with a minimum of ‘C’ grade in Social Science/Human Services course.
