Ms. Deborah C. Harte has worked in the field of social work and human services for the past 30 years. Over this time she has developed a lengthy professional resume in the areas of:
- Program Development and Implementation, with strong emphasis on Administration;
- Social service delivery systems serving a diverse population in private as well as public sectors.
As the Student Life Manager for the Single Stop program at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), Ms. Harte works to help students to address barriers to their education. She is a strong advocate for student services and ensures that students receive the highest quality service possible.
Ms. Harte has a Masters degree from Lincoln University and a Bachelors degree from Hunter College.
MaryEllen Ferrera, LMSW

MaryEllen co-coordinates the day to day operations of the department and assists students in solving complex issues that would otherwise hinder them from continuing their education. She enjoys working with students to
assist them in achieving their educational goals. Prior to coming to BMCC, MaryEllen worked in the non-profit sector assisting Hurricane Sandy survivors to return to their homes.
MaryEllen is a Licensed Master of Social Work and holds a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University. MaryEllen earned her Bachelor of Arts from St. Joseph’s College where she majored in Social Sciences.

Samantha, assists students with a wide variety of support and encouragement. She is inspired by the hardworking students at BMCC. Samantha is our SNAP expert and is more than happy in helping students to see if they qualify. Samantha connects students to resources in and out of Borough of Manhattan Community College, and also helps students find stability during any crisis they may be experiencing. She is passionate about helping students reach their goals. She received her Bachelors in Social Work from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Maxine, is one of the faces that will greet you when you enter the Single Stop Office. She assists students with appointments for health insurance, legal, and financial counseling, along with answering any questions a student may have. Maxine is also the point-person for helping students with the process of applying for the Carroll and Milton Petrie Student Emergency Grant. For Maxine the best part of working in the BMCC Single Stop Office is helping students receive the services they need to remain in school. She has a BS in Human Services from the New York City College of Technology.
Sarah Nilsen, LMSW

Sarah enjoys working with students to find solutions to barriers or challenges which may hinder continuing their education and advocating for student services. She also co-coordinates daily operations for the department.
Before to coming to BMCC Sarah worked in a community-based organization focused on HIV/AIDS and homelessness for several years, and also spent some time in college admissions and film/television.
Sarah is a Licensed Master of Social Work and holds a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University. Sarah earned her Bachelor of Arts from James Madison University in Virginia where she majored in Film Studies.
