All incoming, first-time freshmen are expected and encouraged to participate in the Freshman Year Experience workshops offered before and/or during the initial weeks of each semester.
In these workshops, students receive important information to orient them to life at the college: academic protocol, college services, time management, and personal finance management. Additionally, several workshops are scheduled throughout the semester to build students’ capacities in note-taking, test-taking, and computer skills.
Here are some frequently asked questions about Freshman Year Experience (FYE).
- How many FYE sessions are there in a series?
First Year Experience is offered to students in two ways; as a one-day event before the start of classes or as a four-week workshop that meets once a week.
- What are the dates of upcoming sessions?
The one-day event for First Year Experience is typically offered during the first two weeks of August for students entering BMCC for the fall semester and the first two weeks of January for students entering BMCC for the spring semester. The First Year Experience workshop is always offered during the first four weeks of the fall and spring semester.
- How does someone sign up for FYE?
Students are invited to attend the one-day First Year Experience event after they have attended a Getting Prepared to Start (GPS) orientation session.
The invitation includes a link to a reservation page where students can choose which date they would like to attend. Students who would like to sign up for the four-week workshop can register for it through CUNYfirst. The code for the First Year Experience workshop on CUNYfirst is FYE1.
