Cohort and Honors Programs

The following programs are designed to help you remove barriers to your college success. You may have received communication from one or all the programs. Explore what they offer and join the one that works for you!

Please note that you cannot join ASAP, College Discovery (CD) and the BMCC Learning Academy (BLA) at the same time.

Accelerated Studies in Associate Programs (ASAP)

ASAP is committed to helping you graduate in three years or less. Other benefits include a free monthly metrocard, assistance with textbooks, and a dedicated ASAP advisor.

Eligibility requirements are:

  • Be in an ASAP approved major. We accept all majors except Nursing/Undeclared Health, EMT or RTT majors, or anyone taking Nursing pre-requisite courses.
  • Receive in-city tuition rate
  • Have no more than 15 credits earned if you are a transfer or continuing student
  • Be in good academic standing (not on academic probation)
  • Have a qualifying CUNY developmental Math and/or English developmental need
  • Not enrolled in another cohort program
  • Be committed to graduating from BMCC within three years or less

BMCC Learning Academy (BLA)

BLA is a community-oriented success program that offers supportive personalized advisement, exciting learning communities, success seminars and interactive career and transfer guidance.

Eligibility requirements are:

  • All new students to the program must be Undeclared Health (UDH) majors on the Nursing pathway, as the College builds its Health Professions Community.

College Discovery (CD)

College Discovery (CD) is a program that supports BMCC students so that they can achieve their goals in college and beyond. Benefits include a dedicated CD counselor, tutoring in many academic subjects, and college success workshops.

Eligibility requirements are:

  • Be a legal resident of New York  State for at least one year prior to entering the college
  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Meet the financial guidelines (documentation required)
  • Be accepted as a matriculated student at BMCC
  • Be a first-time, new entering college student
  • Not enrolled in another cohort program

Conexiones> & Connections

The Conexiones & Connections program is open to all students who are interested in exploring and refining their purpose through their college experience. Benefits include a community of support for males of color, Spanish-speaking staff members to help Latinx students, and free winter or spring courses (subject to program conditions, requirements, and funding availability).

Eligibility requirements are:

  • All majors accepted
  • Exempt or placed into highest level of developmental reading and writing
  • Not already a member of ASAP, BMCC Learning Academy, College Discovery, Degree Under Three, Panther Partners, or Year Up
  • International and part-time students are eligible

Honors Scholars Program

The BMCC Honors Scholars Program is designed to offer high achieving students additional challenges in their coursework. Students can search for a selection of Honors Courses and take advantage of an array of opportunities that enrich the honors experience. BMCC’s Honors Scholars Program, which was implemented in 2017, follows best practices from nationwide honors programs.
