Message from the Interim President to Faculty, Staff and Students (03/17/2020)

Dear BMCC Community,

We have learned that some members of the BMCC Community have been tested for COVID-19. All tests are pending results, and no positive cases have been confirmed. However, a staff member has developed serious symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and is hospitalized pending the results of the test.

We appreciate that these individuals have informed us so that we can take appropriate precautions. Because of the level of symptoms in the staff case, we don’t think we should wait until the test results are reported to take action. We have been notifying supervisors and co-workers of the individuals, some of whom will need to go into a preventive quarantine and others monitor their health and seek immediate care if they develop flu-like symptoms.

In light of these developments, the entire BMCC campus will be closed for cleaning, effective Tuesday March 17 at 7:00 p.m. through closing on Wednesday, March 18. Unless otherwise notified, all faculty, staff, and students should stay home.

We all need to serve as public health stewards during this fragile time. We must be vigilant in protecting ourselves, our families, and those who are not as fortunate. Please continue all of the safe practices we have been recommending: wash your hands frequently, cover coughs and sneezes, don’t touch your face, practice social distancing, avoid large groups, and please self-isolate if feeling ill. We will continue to provide regular updates and please visit our website for ongoing updates.

The health and well-being of our BMCC community is our highest priority now. Thank you as always for your patience and support. Please take good care of yourself, your families, and those around you.
