Pérez

BMCC President Antonio Pérez Steps Down After 23 Years  
BMCC President Antonio Pérez will step down after having served with 23 years of leadership at the college. Effective August 31, 2018, President Pérez will be leaving BMCC to pursue other opportunities in New York City higher education. Appointed in 1995, President Pérez led BMCC to have the highest undergraduate enrollment of any college in New York City, increasing from 16,500 students when he came on board, to more than 27,000 today. BMCC has also grown to provide almost 50 Associate degree programs in the Liberal Arts and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

BMCC Appreciation Awards: Reception June 8 
The BMCC community is invited to the BMCC Employee Appreciation Awards reception. The nominations are in and the winners will be announced on June 8 at 12 p.m. in Fiterman Hall, Room 1306/7. The Employee Appreciation Awards are presented to full- and part-time staff members nominated in appreciation of their dedication to the College as well as their outstanding achievement, performance and creative contributions. BMCC Recognizes Student Excellence at Honors 2018 Convocation 
BMCC held its annual Honors Convocation recognizing student excellence on May 29 in Theater 2 at 199 Chambers Street. Marva Craig, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Karrin E. Wilks, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, introduced the program and BMCC President Antonio Pérez made welcoming remarks. Cohort

Second Cohort Completes U.S. Dept of Labor-Funded Comp TIAA+ and CISCO training 
The Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development at BMCC celebrated the completion of its second cohort of students from the U.S. Department of Labor-funded America’s Promise training program with a ceremony on May 24. The 14 students who received the ComptTIAA+ and CISCO Certification Network Administration training are eligible to receive four credits toward an Associate in Computer Information Systems (CIS) degree at BMCC. "This career pathway model is a critical part of our strategic plan to provide stackable credentials towards a degree at BMCC," said Sunil Gupta, Dean of Continuing Education and Workforce Development. In addition to Gupta, the event’s speakers included Senior Program Coordinator Steven Nuñez, Vice President of Technology Joe Spadaro, and CIS Professor Mohammad Azhar of BMCC, as well as Gotham Sharma, Managing Director at ExelTek Consulting. Congratulations to Janette Atkinson, Margie Chen, Wesley Dodd, Timothy Grimes, Jamal Jaradat, Triet Le, Alexander Madore, Kalina McBean, Christopher Savinon, Anton Skarbovsky, Christopher Vaughan, German Vizcaino, Cresta White and Reggie Winborne. ​

BMCC Student Veterans Host Graduate Luncheon
The BMCC Student Veteran Resource Center and T-Mobile hosted a Student Veteran Graduate Luncheon on May 25 to celebrate student success. The event included a live DJ, door prizes and raffles.

WSJ Free Access to The Wall Street Journal
CUNY Libraries have joined The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) in a collaboration that provides students, faculty and staff with access to career advice and news relevant to the classroom. Subscribers can also follow companies and industries, politics, arts and culture. Complimentary WSJ​ memberships can be activated HERE.
Public Safety Office of Public Safety Offers Resources and Services
The Office of Public Safety provides services and resources to ensure a safe, secure and comfortable learning environment at BMCC. Public Safety provides free C.P.R., A.E.D. and First Aid and Campus-Community Emergency Response Training for faculty, staff and students. Staff are also trained as campus fire wardens. Blue call boxes are located throughout the campus.

The Office of Public Affairs consults with BMCC departments, offices, faculty and staff to promote events and activities in an effective manner, reaching audiences on multiple platforms. To better support prospective students, the college is offering combined Admissions and Financial Aid information sessions that provide an overview of BMCC, explain the admissions and financial aid process, and include a Q&A with admissions and financial aid specialists. 1960s Graduates Invited to 50th Milestone Alumni Reception Luncheon
BMCC alumni from the 1960s are invited to attend a 50th Milestone Alumni Reception Luncheon at The Stewart Hotel, 371 Seventh Avenue, New York City, on June 1 at 11:30 a.m. After the luncheon, the alumni are invited to march in the BMCC afternoon commencement ceremony at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. "We encourage all alumni to keep in touch with us and participate in our special alumni events," said Yaritza Gonzalez, BMCC Manager of Alumni Relations and Annual Fund.
