Step 1: Submit a Letter of Intent

The last day to submit a Letter of Intent is Thursday, April 11, 2024. Total funding requests for the program/project must not exceed $100,000. Please contact pfei@bmcc.cuny.edu if you have any questions.

    • Please provide a brief overview of the proposed project. How much money is being requested? Is this a portion of a larger already existing project? Over what period of time is money being requested? How does this align with the College’s strategic guiding principle of increasing retention and reducing racial/gender retention gaps, the college’s long-range strategic plans, and the applicable criteria?
    • Example: The Department of Computer Information Systems seeks funding to develop courses intended to create an accelerated career pathway in Cybersecurity, targeting groups with limited participation in NYC’s burgeoning IT sector. We are requesting $XX,000 over a twelve-month period. The project will improve and reduce equity gaps in regard to student retention, and incorporate career development and career exploration into academic, educational, and student success programming.

    • Explain what issue the proposed project would address.
    • Explain why you have proposed responding to this issue in this way.
    • State briefly why this matters in the area in which you will be working.
    • Identify who benefits. Make sure you can indicate the public good achieved, and how this will increase student retention and success.

    • Give an overview of the activities anticipated by the proposed project. Give details to the degree the space provided allows.
    • Highlight why this approach is novel and deserving of the recognition and investment associated with the Fund.
    • Indicate if there will be collaboration with other organizations and what their roles will be. Be specific about who would do what.
    • Indicate the anticipated time the project will take.

    • State the specific outcomes you hope to achieve, and how they relate to increasing student retention and success, reducing racial/gender retention gaps, and the college’s strategic priorities.
    • Indicate how evaluation/measurement of success is part of the project. How will you demonstrate the outcomes have been achieved?

    • Demonstrate why you and/or your staff are best equipped to carry out this activity.
