On October 21, a small delegation from the Yuno Institute Preschool in Tokyo, Japan, came to visit with members of the BMCC Early Childhood Center to learn about early education program offerings, teaching methods and school structure.
The visiting delegation included Chi Taroda, Mitsuyo Fujita, Toshiyuki Furuki, Institute chairman; Maiko Iwashita and Yuumi Suto. The Jyuroku Yama Nursery School has been administered by the Yuno Institute, in Kanagawa Japan since 2005. The nursery school is located in the forest near Tokyo and incorporates outdoor and environmental activities and lessons for students.
Cecilia Scott-Croff, Director of the BMCC Early Childhood Center; Michael Hutmaker, Dean of Student Affairs and Doug Israel, Director of Government and Community Relations welcomed the delegation during their visit, which included a tour of classrooms and observations of classroom activities.
“It is always affirming when visitors to the Center recognize the work we do to support children’s cognitive, social and emotional development, as well as helping to grow future leaders in early care in education,” says Scott-Croff. “The work we have done is relevant to early childhood educators across the globe. What we share is a strong belief in creating an environment that supports young children’s growth and development.”
