Two graduates of the Cisco Networking Academy at the Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) spent a week working alongside Information Technology (IT) professionals to power the 2016 NBA draft at Barclay Center June 20 through June24, 2016.
Cisco is the official technology sponsor of the NBA. The former Continuing Education students were part of the Networking Academy Dream Team, a select group of students from the United States and Canada who gain real-world experience at NBA events and Cisco Live each year.
Norma Clark, who completed the BMCC Cisco Networking Academy in 2014 and Darryl Scudder, who completed the academy in 2015, participated in the event.
“I spent the first day helping contractors set up the printers, phones and some of the computer workstations,” said Scudder, who eventually would like to become a network engineer.
Steven Nuñez, coordinator, BMCC Center for Continuing Education and Workforce Development said the experience of spending a few days working at such a high profile event was valuable.
“The students are getting a unique opportunity to build their resume and network with industry professionals,” said Nuñez.
Gena Pirtie, Marketing & Workforce Programs Manager at Cisco said the students in the academy are a great representation of the talent coming out of Cisco’s Networking Academies.
“The Cisco Networking Academy Dream Team is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the technical and professional skills of our Cisco Networking Academy students,” said Pirtie.
