Ten Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) students are sharpening their awareness of business challenges through the Goldman Sachs College Collaborative Program.

Throughout the Spring 2018 semester, the BMCC/Goldman Sachs cohort is meeting with student cohorts from Hudson County Community CollegeNew Jersey City University and St. Peter’s University

Central to their work throughout the semester, each group is developing a comprehensive response to a Business Case Challenge. In the process, the students are receiving feedback from Goldman Sachs executives and working with mentors including BMCC staff and alumni coaches.

The program will culminate with a student presentation in the Goldman Sachs offices in Jersey City, New Jersey, on May 4, 2018.

“The Goldman Sachs program is designed to help students develop an understanding of business companies and conflicts through an analysis of various case scenarios,” says Thierry Thesatus, Associate Director of Career Services and Employer Relations in the BMCC Center for Career Development. “They are being mentored and coached by Goldman Sachs executives who share tips to help the students succeed in a particular industry or career field, and start building a valuable professional network.”

The Spring 2018 Goldman Sachs cohort are Business Administration majors Joel Cruz, Jessica Gwathney, Marcus King and Or Levy; Communication Studies major Melissa Mejia; History major Victor Diaz; Writing and Literature major William Perez; Nursing major Marissa Pieratt; Video Art Technology major Natalia Thompson, and Multimedia Programming and Design major Charlotte Uddfors.

“What I expect to get out of this program is the communication skills and awareness of different viewpoints it takes to successfully take a leadership role,” says Charlotte Uddfors.

Marcus King says, “As an entrepreneurship major, I want to start my own fitness center someday; so for me, the Goldman Sachs Business Challenge is a real challenge. Having insight into that challenge, and scaling it down, I can apply what I’ve learned to ant future small business I’m involved in. I also think that working in groups and taking on different roles gives us insight into the team effort it takes to solve problems in a business setting.”
