The Shirley Fiterman Art Center at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) is presenting artist Siri Berg, In Color, a Solo Retrospective from November 17, 2016 to February 4, 2017.

In Color will span nearly six decades of Berg’s work including rarely-exhibited paintings and assemblage from the late 1960s right up to the large-scale acrylic works created this year. Through the year, Berg’s mastery of oil, pigment, and geometric abstraction has continually evolved, having been channeled through varying periods of literary and spiritual examination. Her work is realized through her tireless pursuit of the New-new tonalities and new relationships between color and form, often by using familiar themes and informed by her sensibilities. This unprecedented retrospective will comprise more than 70 works displayed through the Center’s more than 5,000 square-foot exhibition space.

Siri Berg was born in 1921 in Stockholm, Sweden. She received her B.A. from the Institute of Art and Architecture at the University of Brussels. Her work is included in permanent collection of the Guggenheim Museum, New York; Southwest State University Art Museum, New Mexico; Cornell University’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum, Ithaca, New York, and the Museum of Modern Art, Stockholm. She is a long-time member of American Abstract Artists and served as a Professor of Color Theory at Parsons School of Design for more than 30 years.
