BMCC Hosts Arts and Humanities Grants Philanthropy Forum

December 8, 2016

BMCC hosted the CUNY-wide Arts and Humanities Grants Philanthropy Forum on December 8 at 199 Chambers Street with a networking breakfast in Richard Harris Terrace and presentations in Theatre II.

The event was sponsored by the Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY). BMCC President Antonio Pérez welcomed the audience and Richard F. Rothbard, President, RFCUNY, gave remarks and introduced the screening of a film.

"This event provided five major philanthropists with an opportunity to share their interests in funding opportunities to support higher education," said Helene Bach, Director of Research at BMCC. "This is the first time that BMCC hosted this event in collaboration with RFCUNY. The event brought together funding sources with members of the academic field, in order to exchange ideas and cultivate relationships to enhance academic programs."

John Tsapogas, Director, Office of Award Pre-Proposal Support, RFCUNY, introduced representatives of philanthropic institutions.

These included Richard Brown, Vice President of Philanthropy and Rebecca Gnessin, Manager of Philanthropy at American Express Foundation; Lauren Kushnick, Director of Grants and Partnerships; Sara Ogger, Executive Director and Michael Washburn, Director of Programs, at Humanities New York; Kathleen Masterson, Director of the Literature and Theatre Programs and Christine Leahy, Program Director, at the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA); Kerry McCarthy, Program Director, The New York Community Trust and Sara Reisman, Artistic Director, the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation. The event closed with a Q&A session.
