NEW EXHIBIT AT BMCC HAILS THE LIFE AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF MARY BAKER EDDY, 19TH CENTURY HEALTH PIONEER February 28, 2003
State-of-the-art exhibit on display at BMCC through April 28
The nationally acclaimed multi-media touring exhibit about the life of Mary Baker Eddy, “This is woman’s hour…” is on display through April 28 at Borough of Manhattan Community College, on the third floor south next to the Women’s Center.
The college mounted the exhibit as part of its Women’s History Month celebration.
Eddy pioneered many progressive ideas in the nineteenth century about women’s rights, mind-body medicine, spirituality, and health. She broke through society’s restrictions on women to become a noted author, healer, teacher, and publisher—founding the Christian Science Monitor when she was 87 years old in 1908. Eddy’s book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, has sold over 10 million copies.
On national tour since 1998, this multimedia exhibit explores the life of Mary Baker Eddy through news clippings, photographs, and listening stations.
“This is woman’s hour…” highlights the life and work of a 19th century woman who achieved in spite of adversity and societal restrictions. “It seems especially appropriate that this traveling exhibit about Mary Baker Eddy is now on display at BMCC where many of our own students have also had to overcome adversity,” said BMCC President Antonio Pérez.
The exhibit was prepared by The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy in conjunction with the National Park Service and featured as an “untold story” at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, NY in early 1998.
It will be on display through April 28 at Borough of Manhattan Community College on the third floor, south wing next to the Women’s Center. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
