Moizah Arshad Receives SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome Award at BMCC Honors Convocation

Moizah Arshad, a science major at Borough of Manhattan Community College, will receive the SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome Award at the Honors Convocation on May 27.

Ms. Arshad was born in the Bronx, but when she was five, her mother took her and her sisters and brother to Pakistan to live. While growing up in Pakistan, Ms. Arshad became fascinated with science, especially biology, and by the time she was in tenth grade, she had the highest grade point average in her school.

Ms. Arshad’s family returned to New York permanently in 2000. She received a GED and began attending BMCC. At BMCC, she assisted her fellow students as a chemistry tutor and peer mentor. She was also active in the Muslim Students Association on campus.

The May 27 Honors Convocation celebrates the academic achievements of BMCC graduates from the summer 2002, fall 2002, and spring 2003 classes. Ms. Arshad graduated with honors from BMCC in summer 2002. She now attends City College where she is majoring in biology. After she receives her bachelor’s degree, she plans to enter medical school.

Ms. Arshad lives in Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx.
