MODERN LANGUAGE PROFESSOR AWARDED FELIKS GROSS ENDOWEMENT AWARD

Hilario Barrero, assistant professor of modern languages, is the recipient of a 2005 Feliks Gross Endowment Award. Given by the CUNY Academy for the Humanities and Sciences, the award, now in its sixth year, honors emerging scholars for their research and scholarly achievements.
Barrero is a poet and artist. His poetry books include Siete poemas del Sur y una postdata and Siete Sonetos, In Tempore Belli, winner of the first Gastón Baquero Poetry Prize. Barrero won the first café Muskiz PoetryPrize in 2003 for his book El ascensor de Rockefeller Center. His work has appeared in magazines in the United States and Spain, and been collected in several anthologies. A native of Toledo, Spain, Barrero came to BMCC in 2003 after teaching at Princeton University.
