MEOC Hosts Graduation for More Than 600 Students

The Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) held its 49th commencement ceremony on Wednesday, June 1 in Theatre One on BMCC’s main campus. More than 600 graduates were honored for completing MEOC programs including English for Speakers of Other Languages, High School Equivalency, College Prep, Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Microsoft® Office, Electronic Health Records, Civil Service Exam Prep and Security Officer Training. “I have my mom and granddaughter with me today and they’re so proud,” said Claribel Pons, who completed the Electronic Health Records program. “On top of a great program, I get to attend graduation!”

BMCC President Antonio Pérez and Associate Dean of Faculty Jim Berg congratulated the graduates, as did SUNY Associate Provost Lisa McKay and MEOC Executive Director, Anthony Watson. Leroy Jemison, MEOC Lecturer, presented graduate Jacqueline Gray with the Valedictorian Award.

Ronald Pettaway, MEOC Coordinator of Admissions and Recruitment, introduced the keynote speaker, Clayton Banks, Founder and Co-Executive Producer of Silicon Harlem. The ceremony was followed with a catered luncheon in Richard Harris Terrace.
