Interim President Shares Message of Solidarity, College Hosts Town Hall

June 1, 2020

Dear BMCC Community,

As always, I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and strong as we hope for some safe opening of New York City. We continue to mourn those lost to the virus. Amidst all this pain, we are made to endure another agony, the ongoing racial injustice in this country. From false charges in Central Park to a police officer charged with murder in Minneapolis to neighbors shooting a jogger in Georgia to an EMT killed by police in her own home, we are reminded that we must do everything we can to peacefully eliminate the horrific and unrelenting structural racism that surrounds us.

On behalf of the BMCC community, I convey our deepest condolences and solidarity with the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and all victims of injustice everywhere.

BMCC is committed to advancing equity, strengthening a culture of care, and advancing justice through education. A core BMCC value is belonging, ensuring that all members of a community feel that they belong and are valued. We all play a critical role in condemning racial injustice and hate. We all play a critical role in rising up toward greater understanding and compassion. Kindness and justice must prevail. Thank you all for the work you do to make this world a better place.

Please continue to take good care of yourselves, your families, and all of those around you.
