Gregoria Majchrzyk to Receive Dean’s Award at BMCC Honors Convocation

Gregoria Majchrzyk will receive the Dean’s Award at the Borough of Manhattan Community College Honors Convocation on May 27. Ms. Majchrzyk is an accounting major with a 3.99 grade point average.

Gregoria Majchrzyk grew up in Mexico, as the youngest of 11 children in a fisherman’s family. After graduation from high school in Mexico, she worked as a bookkeeper there and also performed Mexican folk dancing with a dance troupe. In the 1980s, while on tour with the dance troupe, she met her future husband and moved with him to New York where they were married.

In New York, Ms. Majchrzyk worked for the Mexican Mission to the United Nations as a secretary and bookkeeper. She also started to study English for the first time.

Mr. and Ms. Majchrzyk started a family, and they now have a son and a daughter. Ms. Majchrzyk enrolled in BMCC upon the recommendation of a friend. She credits her academic success to her supportive family.

Ms. Majchrzyk graduated from BMCC in December 2002. She now attends Baruch College as an accounting major. She plans to earn her CPA license and become an auditor.

Ms. Majchrzyk lives in Chelsea with her family.
