Free Film Retrospective: Happy Birthday Ella, Dizzy and Monk

December 4, 2017

BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center (BMCC TPAC), the longest-operating performance venue in lower Manhattan, proudly presents on December 19 at 7:30 p.m., Happy Birthday Ella, Dizzy and Monk. This evening of vintage and classic film clips showcases the jazz legends Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk—all three born in 1917 and significant contributors to American jazz.

The evening is free of charge, and will be held in the BMCC TPAC Theatre 2. It is part of the BMCC TPAC 2017-2018 film retrospective series, Scenes Through the Cinema Lens.

Curated and hosted by Krin Gabbard—Professor of Comparative Literature and English at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and author of Hotter Than That: The Trumpet, Jazz, and American Culture—each film retrospective in the series is free of charge, and followed by a Q&A moderated by Professor Gabbard.
