CUNY HONORS BMCC PROFESSOR PATRICIA WILKINSON, INWOOD RESIDENT, FOR SCHOLARLY ACHIEVEMENTS

December 12, 2002

The City University of New York honored Borough of Manhattan Community College Professor Patricia Wilkinson for her scholarship on December 10. A professor of mathematics and chairperson of the department at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), Wilkinson was among a select group of scholars who were recognized at a “Salute to Scholars” reception at the New York Public Library.

Wilkinson was selected for recognition because she was selected by the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) to receive the national award for Teaching Excellence last year. “I was pleased to be selected for the Salute to Scholars Award because I think it brings university recognition to the work of community college faculty,” said Wilkinson. “I think the most important thing about this is that, after 36 years of teaching at BMCC, I am as enthusiastic about teaching, research, and college service as I ever was,” she continued.

Professor Wilkinson lives in the Inwood section of Manhattan.
Wilkinson was one of three BMCC professors honored at the Salute to Scholars Reception. Y-Chun Tricia Lin, assistant professor of English, and Annie Han, assistant professor of mathematics, were also singled out for recognition.

“We are very proud of the accomplishments of our faculty, especially when they are recognized by the university,” noted BMCC President Antonio Pérez.
