Community College Week’s Top 100 Once Again Rates BMCC as a “Top Producer of Associate Degrees”

Since 1988, Community College Week has been the independent source of in-depth information for and about two-year colleges and annually provides trends, including measuring the performance of community colleges in conferring associate degrees.

BMCC’s Ranking Among All Disciplines
According to the 2007 “Top 100,” which was published today, BMCC is rated 12th in conferring associate degrees in all disciplines. It is second in the ranking called “Business, Management, Marketing and Related Support Services.” BMCC is seventh in the associate degrees in Education. In conferring associate degrees in “Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services,” BMCC is ranked fifth. And in Nursing, BMCC is ranked 34th.

BMCC’s Profile of Minority Representation Among Associate Degree Recipients
The college is ranked fourth in conferring associate degrees in all disciplines to Black students. It is ranked 15th in conferring associate degrees to Hispanic students. BMCC is also ranked 27th in conferring associate degrees to Asian Americans.

Analyzing the Data

Community College Week ranks colleges based on the number of degrees granted annually. The overall rank is based on a combined list of two- and four-year colleges; as such, the rank overall may differ from the rank among community colleges.

According to Community College Week, “the June 2007 top 100 analysis examines degrees and certificates awarded during the 2005-06 academic year. The data are collected by the National Center for Education Statistics through the Completion Survey of their Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Set, known as IPEDS. The data included in this analysis are considered “preliminary.” That is, the information is complete and accurate for those institutions included in the data sets but not every eligible is yet included. “
