Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) recently announced that BNY Mellon has provided $50,000 in grant funding for the BMCC Out in Two Program scholarships.

Founded in 1999 by BMCC President Antonio Pérez, the Out in Two scholarship program is designed to help more students graduate within two consecutive years.

The BNY Mellon grant will enable BMCC to admit 10 additional students to the program, growing the Fall 2016 cohort to 70 students. Each of these students will be supported by scholarships for three full semesters, will have a dedicated advisor and benefit from cultural enrichment, as well as community service activities.

“We are grateful for this generous support from BNY Mellon, which enables us to offer the Out in Two program scholarship to ten new outstanding students,” said Doris Holz, Vice President of Development and Chief Operating Officer, BMCC Foundation. “We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with BNY Mellon.”

“One of the reasons the program has been so successful is because we are not just providing students with financial support, but also creating a community of diverse individuals who have the same academic goal — to be Out in Two. We are very grateful to BNY Mellon for enabling us to expand the program and support the success of more students,” said Jonathan Matamoros, Program Coordinator, Out in Two.

“We have supported BMCC since 2008 because it represents an important gateway for its students to acquire a two-year degree, which is critical to preparing them for the workforce and securing a future for themselves and their families,” said Daisey Holmes, Head of Philanthropy and Employee Programs in the New York Metro Region, BNY Mellon. “As a part of our philanthropic focus on workforce development, we’re pleased to support Out in Two, which helps to bridge the economic and opportunity gap for students across New York’s five boroughs.”

The Out in Two program reconvenes in the Fall 2016 semester.
