The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) welcomed more than 27,500 students back to school for the start of the Fall 2015 semester on Thursday, August 27.

This fall, the college is launching seven new Associate of Arts (A.A.) and Associate of Science (A.S.) degree programs.

Already, 134 students are registered in the new majors including; two in Art Foundations-History; 34 in Art FoundationsStudio Art; 70 in Animation; seven in History; two in Modern Languages and 19 in Sociology according to the BMCC registrars office. The school is also offering a new program in Gerontology.

BMCC now offers associate degrees in 30 separate majors.

On Day One of classes, the main entrance at 199 Chambers Street was a hive of activity and conversation. Droves of new and returning students swiped ID cards then sped off to class or take care of unfinished business at one of the college’s administrative or student service offices.

Standing at the entrance offering directions and answering questions was Scotty Zinifire, a Welcome Ambassador from the school’s Office of Student Affairs .

Zinifire said his job is to make sure the students who might have a little trouble finding their way around the campus get to the place they are going.

“Being that this is the first day of school, we’ve been incredibly busy,” said Zinifire.

BMCC caught up with a few new and returning students in the school’s hallways and this is what they had to say.
