The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) Office of Academic Affairs welcomes Sharon Reid as Director of the Office of Internships and Experiential Learning

Reid comes to BMCC from The New School where she had served as Assistant Director of Career Services since 2012. Strongly committed to diversity, equity and accessibility in higher education, she strengthened pipelines to student employment through The New School’s relationships with internal and external partners. Before joining The New School, Reid worked in organizational development and as a training consultant at Tate Ellington Associates, as well as at Lee Hecht Harrison/Drake Beam Morin, Inc.

Earlier this year, BMCC also named Jessica Levin (shown below) as Experiential Learning and Study Abroad Manager. Levin, who will report to Reid, comes to BMCC from New York University’s Office of Global Programs, where she managed admissions for NYU Accra, Buenos Aires and Shanghai, and supported summer programs for the College of Arts and Sciences. Before that, Levin served as an admissions officer at the NYU School of Professional Studies and taught classes on Middle Eastern Americans at The Graduate Center CUNY.

The Office of Internships and Experiential Learning provides opportunities in which students can learn and apply skills through credit–bearing internships, Study Abroad programs, project-based learning, job-shadow programs, service learning and more.

“BMCC is committed to expanding internship and experiential learning opportunities for BMCC students, both as a proven engagement and retention strategy, and to prepare students for success in the workplace,” said Karrin Wilks, Provost and Senior Vice President of BMCC Academic Affairs.

Reid and Levin will support these efforts as well as build ongoing relationships with local companies, nonprofits, the emerging Technology, Advertising, Media and Information (TAMI) sector. For example, the Office of Internships and Experiential Learning has worked with initiatives such as the CUNY Code to Work program, to recruit and train first-generation immigrants and others into technology-focused jobs.
