Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) welcomes Wilfred J. Germain as Director of the Public Safety Department.

Reporting directly to Vice President of Finance and Administration Julio W. Izquierdo and BMCC President, Dr. Anthony E. Munroe, Director Germain brings extensive security experience to his role at BMCC.

“At BMCC, we believe strongly that every member of our community deserves to feel safe,” said Vice President Izquierdo. “It’s our responsibility to ensure that our campus environment is a secure place of community, learning and opportunity. Our students, faculty and staff can rely on a swift and compassionate response, if they are in need of assistance from a member of our Public Safety team. Wilfred Germain shares these values and goals, and has the experience-based skills to keep them strong at BMCC. I look forward to working with Wilfred, as we continue to make BMCC a place where everyone can thrive.”

Before joining BMCC, Director Germain served as Director of Security and School Safety for Democracy Prep New York, managing the daily security operations for 15 charter school campuses across Harlem and the Bronx.

In this role, he developed comprehensive security plans, conducted risk assessments, oversaw the training of public safety staff and led crisis management efforts.

Earlier roles include having served as Director of Security and Fire Safety at the Piedmont Office Realty Trust/Allied Universal, where Germain managed the department budget, coordinated with various New York City agencies for security clearances, and administered a personnel training program.

As Security Supervisor and Fire Life Safety Director at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Germain supervised a security team assigned to the Evelyn Lauder Breast Cancer Center. Serving as Security Operations Manager at AJ Melano and Associates (TGI Friday’s), he resolved safety violations and created a training program for guards on the premises.

At BMCC, Director Germain will oversee 24-hour, campus-wide public safety coverage provided by a Public Safety team that includes both Campus Peace Officers (CPOs) and Campus Security Assistants (CSAs).

He will also guide security briefings at BMCC student orientations, work closely with College leadership, and maintain an ongoing relationship with the local police precinct.

Now completing a Bachelor of Science in Security Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Director Germain holds an F-89 Fire Life Safety Director License (FLSD) as well as First Aid/CPR/AED/ Narcan and New York State Security Guard licenses.
